Engenhocas

Engenhocas (gizmos) is a collection of 36 toys designed as part of an educational program to bring maker culture to kids aged 3 to 5 years old. Each toy is sent in flat cardboard and is meant to be assembled to resolve a problem introduced by a story in an illustrated book, exposing the children to new ways of interacting with the world around them.

Cardboard was the main choice for this project as it is an accessible and familiar material to publishing industries that made possible to combine three-dimensional toys to the books sent to kindergartens and schools.

Maker education

Working with education, I was able to take part in planning the curriculum of STEAM and maker courses for children. That also involved a lot of hands-on work, including designing toys and structured activities to be shipped alongside the school books, as well as writing project-based learning resources for teachers and building introductory programming activities with tools like Micro:bit.

Cards and boardgames

Games can be important tools in education by requiring and stimulating the use of different skills, like communication, logic and many others. Moreover they can present and bring children’s attention to a broader range of subjects and information.
Here is a selection of games I designed as part of materials for elementary school students

Developed at Novidário, it is a product aimed at educational environments to meet new demands for flexible and collaborative spaces. Its triple swivel mechanism allows the base, seat and tablet to move independently, adapting the product to different users and situations. Different configurations and layouts can be obtained with the Jataí chair, making it easy to adapt the environment according to the pedagogical activities.
